History tells that her love for Napoleon was very great, but she could not give him an heir.
In 1809, Napoleon divorced her, with a heavy heart, while retaining all his love for her.
This breakup also marked the beginning of the gradual decline of the Empire.
Joséphine died in 1814, near Paris, as Napoleon had just abdicated.
It should be noted, however, that the people of Martinique do not hold Joséphine dear in their hearts.
