ROMANIA 2003
Welcome to Romania!
This country, located in Eastern Europe, was formed in 1859 by the union of Moldova and Wallachia.
Romania is about half the size of France and has a population of 23 million people.
The name Romania comes from the Roman Empire, of which it was once a province; the official language, Romanian, is a mix of Latin and Slavic words.
After decades of dictatorship under Nicolae Ceausescu, Romania is a country under reconstruction, having joined the European Union on January 1, 2007.
This small photo report offers a first glimpse of this sometimes misunderstood country, through a collection of a hundred photos.
