The rest of the islet is just a succession of volcanic rocks whose angular shapes and lack of vegetation betray their youth.

Indeed, even though Santorini's volcano seems currently dormant, it is only partially asleep.

The last eruption was in 1950... practically a fraction of a second on the scale of a volcano's life!

In fact, the volcano's activity was regular over the last centuries: previous eruptions occurred from 1939 to 1941, from 1925 to 1928, from 1866 to 1870, etc...
